Late Admissions: October 2018

Thinking of applying close to the 31 October 2018 deadline for a place in Year 7 at Magna in 2019-2020?

Then please don't panic. There are just a handful of things that you need to know.

  1. The Deadline

Magna Academy offers up to 180 places per year group. Please remember that applications for Year 7 places for September 2019 should be made to the Borough of Poole by midnight on 31 October 2018. Later applications are highly unlikely to secure a place.

  2. Our Code of Conduct
Hard copies of the Magna Academy 'Whatever It Takes' agreement form can be downloaded here in PDF and MS Word formats:

    Whatever It Takes (PDF version)
Whatever It Takes (MS Word version)

The agreement is also available to read on this site by clicking on this link.
  3. Cognitive Testing
Magna Academy requires all new students to sit a cognitive test prior to joining. This is not a selection test like those used by grammar schools. This test is (a) to determine your child's cognitive abilities so we can provide the appropriate educational support, tailored to their needs, and (b) to ensure that Magna takes a representative spread of student applicants from high, medium and low ability groups, in line with national averages.

If your child has not sat the test before you applied or if you have applied late without having been invited to one of our testing sessions, please don't worry.

The Borough of Poole will collate all applications for Magna and will advise us appropriately of the prospective students' names. We will then check our records to determine which students have not yet sat the cognitive test. A letter will be sent to the parents/carers of each untested student with an invitation to attend a testing session before the end of 2018.
  4. Academy In Action Tours
We also offer Academy Tours to parents and children who are looking to take up a place at Magna. There is nothing quite like seeing a school during a normal 'working day' in order to get the true measure of how the community operates. Please click on this link to learn more.
