Key Stage 3

KS3 at Magna Academy

Key Stage 3 covers Years 7 to 9, ensuring that all students are appropriately challenged.

Students are tested in all subjects and on their literacy and numeracy at the start of Year 7. This sets a benchmark target and we use this benchmark to continuously and individually monitor each student's progress.

Students working at below-expected levels in literacy and/or numeracy in Years 7 to 9 will receive additional support.

Some students will receive a tailored curriculum, providing them with the intense accelerated literacy, reading and numeracy development that they need.

It is essential for students in Years 7 to 9 to develop the skills and knowledge needed to support their GCSE studies by the time that Key Stage 4 comes around.

At Magna, our academy day is divided into blocks of learning. There is a daily Tutor Period and this vital time is used:

  • to deliver Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) learning
  • to prepare for the day ahead
  • to share social and Magna community notices with the students, and
  • to reinforce knowledge retention

Each student at Magna benefits from having:

  • a tutor,
  • a challenging curriculum programme that is tailored to their own abilities

From September 2019, Year 7 will participate in Applied Transdisciplinary Learning and will have opportunities to showcase the work they have done.
