Background and Experience
I graduated from the University of Bath while competing for Great Britain as a 400m & 4x400m relay sprinter. At the same time I also coached athletics to both children and adults. It was from this experience that I discovered I had a passion for teaching and developing talents in other people.
Before starting my graduate teaching programme in Physical Education, I also worked in two different schools to gain some experience. I worked in one as a Maths specialist teaching assistant, and in another school as their extra-curricular activities coordinator.
I soon changed from teaching PE to teaching Maths, and have now taught in six schools across Wiltshire, Dorset and Essex. During that time, I have been Head of Maths in two different schools and taught from Year 7 to Year 13, including A Level Maths. I am coming to the end of my sixth Year at Magna, which is the longest that I have been in any school. It has been wonderful seeing the different cohorts passing through the Academy over the years, developing as young adults and achieving such marvellous examination results.
When developing systems, structures and policies at Magna, the thought I always have in the back of my mind is: “Is this good enough for my two children”?
Three Personal Values
- To be consistent and fair
- To be honest, transparent, and do what is right
- There is always room to improve
My Favourite Educational Quote:
‘Life is often compared to a marathon, but I think it is more like being a sprinter; long stretches of hard work punctuated by brief moments in which we are given the opportunity to perform at our best. As strong as my legs are, it is my mind that has made me a champion.’
