Background and Experience

I have always been curious about the world around me and have always loved learning. At school I was particularly interested in science and geography. My passion for learning is still just as strong today and I actively seek opportunities to gain new knowledge, understanding and skills. It is a privilege to share and teach others about the things I find interesting.

I grew up in Southampton, where I worked hard at school and enjoyed playing sports with my friends. I have always been driven to do my best and owe so much to my teachers and parents for developing this in me. When I was 14 I tried surfing on holiday and, what started as an afternoon of fun, has turned into a lifelong passion. My pursuit of waves to surf has taken me around the world and I still try to surf spots along the south coast and sometimes further afield as often as I can.

My interest in science and the natural world eventually led me to study a degree in Oceanography with Geography before undertaking a Masters in Environmental Policy. After a few years spent based in the southwest of England, working in various jobs while saving up to travel, I trained as a teacher and moved to Dorset to take up my first teaching position.

Since then I have held positions as a Subject leader, Head of Year, Progress Leader and most recently Assistant Principal. I believe that schools should offer all learners the chance to reach their academic potential alongside opportunities for personal development, character education, fun and adventure.

I am very excited to be joining Magna Academy as Vice Principal in September 2022 and am determined to share my love of learning and drive to succeed with everyone at the Academy.

Three Personal Values

  • Integrity – Doing the right thing and having strong moral principles that you refuse to change.
  • Resilience – the ability to withstand adversity, bounce back and grow despite life’s downturns.
  • Spirit of adventure – enjoying the thrill of tackling something new and taking on positive, healthy challenges so that you get to experience a life full of opportunity.

My Favourite Educational Quote:
"Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet….Never give up work. Work gives you meaning and purpose and life is empty without it."
Stephen Hawking
