Welcome to the Magna Academy Careers, Education, Information and Guidance (CEIAG) initiative called Futures.

At Magna Academy, we understand just how important CEIAG is for our young people. Effective careers education underpins academic success and wellbeing in future life. We do not want our young people to view their future employment as something that is separate from their rest of their lives or the careers education as something that separate from their academic learning. Therefore, at Magna Academy we call CEIAG our Futures Programme.

Futures is not just about a student’s career, it is about who they are going to become. To make these important decisions students need to think carefully about themselves considering what they enjoy and what they are good at. Their futures should excite them and with hard work and with the right decisions and choices our students will end up doing something they love and which will make them very happy.

At Magna Academy we ensure that we implement the Gatsby Benchmarks. In 2013, Gatsby commissioned Sir John Holman to set out what career guidance in England would be like if it were good by international standards, resulting in the Good Career Guidance report

The eight benchmarks set out in the report serve as a framework for improvement in careers provision and have been adopted as part of the Government’s Careers Strategy and statutory guidance for schools and college. Magna Academy meets 100% of the Gatsby benchmarks, please read our report here.

Please read more about the report here- https://www.gatsby.org.uk/education/focus-areas/good-career-guidance

The Gatsby Benchmarks came together after research from around the world.- The eight Gatsby benchmarks of Good Career Guidance are:

1. A stable careers programme
2. Learning from career and labour market information
3. Addressing the needs of each pupil
4. Linking curriculum learning to careers
5. Encounters with employers and employees
6. Experiences of workplaces
7. Encounters with further and higher education
8. Personal guidance
