Thursday afternoon saw the long awaited return of inter-school fixtures since the start of the pandemic! The Year 8 boys football team travelled to Poole High for the first round of the County Cup.

Magna started well, staying compact and disciplined throughout most of the first half, before Poole High managed to find a way through to go 1-0 up prior to the half time break. Goalkeeper Zak White’s commanding performance helping to keep Magna in the tie.

The second half didn’t start too well for Magna, with Poole High putting the game to bed with 2 goals in 10 minutes to go 3-0 up. However, Magna kept their heads high and finished well, with their man of the match Alfie Miller capping an excellent individual display with a well deserved goal to cut the deficit to 3-1. Poole High did manage to round off their victory with a last minute goal though with the game finishing at 4-1.

Despite this result, I was immensley proud of the battle the boys showed right to the end against a very well oiled side in Poole High. I am definitely looking forward to how this team builds and developes in the next couple of years.
