We are delighted to announce the appointment of the Head Prefects and Deputy Head Prefects for Magna Academy for the 2025/26 academic year.
Please join us in congratulating Lottie S and Hannah G, who will take on the prestigious role of Head Prefects, supported by Maya C and Sophie R as our newly appointed Deputy Head Prefects.
These exceptional students excelled in a comprehensive and competitive application process that included a compelling written application, a formal interview with Principal Mr Midworth and Coordinator of Student Leadership Mr Ginger, as well as confidently delivered speeches during year group hustings assemblies. The final decision was made through a full staff and student vote, which ensured that the whole academy community had a voice in selecting our new prefect team.
This year’s election process marked a record level of engagement and accuracy. A total of 687 votes were cast – an increase of 85 from last year, representing a 14.1% rise in overall participation. Of these, 626 were student votes (↑78, up 14.2%) and 61 were staff votes (↑7, up 13.0%). Impressively, 670 of the votes were valid – an improvement of 87 from 2024, reflecting a 14.9% increase in voting accuracy. These figures demonstrate the growing enthusiasm and commitment to student voice within the Magna community.
Each of the appointed prefects have displayed a clear alignment with our academy guiding principles of self-worth, engagement and purpose. Their dedication to making a positive difference, coupled with their maturity and thoughtful leadership, has been recognised by both staff and peers alike.
We also want to take the time to thank each of the fourteen candidates who applied for these roles. The standard was incredibly high and we are immensely proud of how professionally and passionately each candidate approached the process. The support and camaraderie you showed one another, despite being in direct competition, was genuinely inspiring. Such was the quality of your performance throughout the process that Mr Ginger has extended an open invitation to all applicants to join the wider student leadership team in another capacity next year. The academy needs student leaders like you, and your enthusiasm and integrity have not gone unnoticed.
As Lottie, Hannah, Maya and Sophie begin their journey as student leaders, we are excited to see the initiatives they’ll launch and the impact they will make on academy life. Stay tuned to our website and social channels over the coming weeks and months for updates on their work and the legacy they will begin to build.
Well done and congratulations.
Mr Ginger
