On Friday 27th June, 35 enthusiastic Year 9 students with a keen interest in Product Design visited Bournemouth University for an inspiring and action-packed day. Accompanied by Mr Barrett, Mrs Beaven, and Mrs O’Keefe, students kicked off the day with a fascinating talk by Dr Bryce Dyer on the future of product design — including the growing role of AI in the industry.

They were then given a guided tour of the university campus by student ambassadors, getting a real taste of life at university. A highlight of the day was a hands-on workshop with Numatic International (creators of the iconic Henry vacuum cleaner), where students disassembled and reassembled vacuums — with Reece and Elsie coming within just 6 seconds of the record time, reassembling theirs in an impressive 1 minute 46 seconds!

In the afternoon, students explored the Festival of Engineering, where they engaged with final year Product Design students and quizzed them about their innovative prototypes and project journeys.

Throughout the day, our students represented Magna Academy with pride — they were polite, inquisitive, and thoroughly engaged. A huge well done to all involved for making the most of a fantastic opportunity!
