From 5th-14th July, 16 students from Magna Academy and 2 from Livingstone Academy travelled to Zanzibar to volunteer in Al-Ikhwan Nursery & Primary School just outside the city of Stone Town.

The students plastered and painted the inside of 3 classrooms as well as the external wall of the school. They taught a range of subjects including Maths, English and Biology and played football with many of the students as part of PE lessons, making use of new footballs and kit that they had taken as donations. In addition, they did a fantastic job collecting a further 12 suitcases full of donations for the local community and school ranging from clothes and sanitary products to a wide range of stationery.

The students demonstrated our Trust values of self worth, purpose and engagement throughout the trip and were keen to get involved in all aspects of school life meaning there were many tears on our last day at school.

Before leaving the island, the volunteers then got an opportunity to experience snorkelling and a boat trip to an island to the south of Zanzibar which was a great way to finish the trip
