VISION

At Magna Academy, our vision is to ignite a lifelong passion for physical activity in every student, regardless of their starting point. We aim to inspire a generation of healthy, active individuals who value the positive impact of physical activity on their physical, mental and social well being. Through an inclusive, engaging, and character-building Physical Education (PE) curriculum, we nurture confidence, resilience and teamwork. We strive to instil a deep enjoyment of sport and movement, both in and beyond the Academy, ensuring all students feel empowered to live active and balanced lives long after they leave us.

INTENT

Our intent is to deliver a dynamic and inclusive curriculum that challenges every student to grow as both a performer and an individual. We seek to develop key life skills such as leadership, communication, empathy and resilience through a diverse range of physical activities. By exposing students to competitive and cooperative experiences across a broad curriculum; spanning traditional sports, gymnastics, striking and field sports, athletics, a range of net sports and fitness activities, we enable them to discover their strengths, find joy in physical activity and understand the value of a healthy lifestyle. Our aim is to ensure all students leave Magna equipped with the skills, knowledge and confidence to engage in lifelong physical activity.

IMPLEMENTATION

We deliver a carefully planned and sequenced curriculum, underpinned by collaborative planning, high expectations, and subject expertise. Lessons are structured to build on prior knowledge, progressively develop practical and theoretical understanding and cater to all ability levels. Students are assessed through a balance of practical performance, knowledge application and evaluative skills. Our Core PE programme prioritises enjoyment, inclusivity and wellbeing, while our academic pathways including BTEC Sport and Uniformed Protective Services, offer deeper exploration for those pursuing sport-related careers. High-quality teaching, a strong behaviour ethos and rich extra-curricular opportunities ensure all students thrive in a safe and stimulating environment.

IMPACT

Our curriculum leaves a lasting impact by embedding a culture of active, healthy living across the Academy. Students demonstrate high levels of engagement, growing in confidence, discipline, and independence. They regularly take on roles as performers, leaders, officials and coaches, developing vital transferable skills. Many choose to extend their learning through examination PE or by representing the Academy in inter-school and inter-house competitions. As they progress through the Key Stages, students become reflective, knowledgeable and resilient individuals, ready to make positive choices about their health and activity beyond school. The success of our department is evident not just in academic outcomes, but in the lifelong attitudes our students adopt towards physical activity and wellbeing.
