VISION

The vision for the Magna Academy Higher Project Qualification (HPQ) is to prepare students for their future lives. To create opportunities for students to learn through an independent project of their choosing. To help students build skills in project management, self-direction and independent learning, with the aim to support them in future education or employment. The vision is to develop students’ passion for learning, confidence, motivation and voice.

INTENT

To realise our vision to create independent learners. Through developing their own project, students will develop their power skills. Students will be able to demonstrate their time management skills and critical thinking in realising their projects. There will be opportunities to develop creativity through a performance outcome. Students will have a sense of purpose and achievement in realising their projects.

IMPLEMENTATION

Students have set guided hours with a teacher who delivers content on how to complete a successful project, followed by time to complete their work under the supervision of the teacher. The taught program will cover:

  • How to plan and implement a proposal
  • Review their progress through check points
  • Research a range of sources and check their validity
  • Present their findings in creative ways

IMPACT

To achieve this qualification, students will demonstrate their Power Skills of critical thinking and character, they will have developed their research and evaluative skills having produced a performance on their self directed topic. The qualification will support learners in their existing GCSEs/Level 2 qualifications and prepare them for Level 3 qualifications, including the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), as well as future employment and apprenticeship options.
